ALL NEW MEMBERS PLEASE DO READ

Its been some time.. i do check the blog every now and then and yesterday i happened to see mash's post in which he mentioned abt the level of seriousness in the sessions... He has made a very true point... Cross talking is at an all time high i guess..(and i am gulity as charged..!)

See cross talkin or even crackin jokes between speeches is fine as long as you are listening... at least tht's what i've felt... The question answer session is also as lively as ever... but the sad fact is that only a handful of people are asking the questions... i see a very big chunk of people who have yet to start firing questions... 10 people being attentive and 20 others listening muted spoils the entire idea of the table topic session....

all the new members... please take a note of how the senior members like anuroop conduct themselves during the session.. YES THEY'LL TALK IN BETWEEN... BUT THEY ARE SHARP AND ATTENTIVE... and they'll always have their hands up after a speech... with really good questions..
and as for grilling.... the current bunch is extremely lucky for they've not been grilled half as we were( no offence guys!)... DO NOT RESTRICT THE GRILLING TO INTROS... GRILL EVERY SINGLE SPEECH... let the speakers fend for themselves... and there should be no bias there...
i have been caught up with a lot of things these days.. but god knows i miss the sessions... i really miss em...
and one more thing... the moderator is GOD... you don't talk back... if u do.. u get thrown out...
see such little things go a long way... once the session is over everything is chilled out...
but when inside the session.. take it a little seriously...
uni-y is a cathredal( moderator is the pope!) all right.. but fun and mirth come along with the prayer service...
take care..

some points

hi all,
infact after some time gap, I attended an UNIY session last week. For people who are not familiar with me, I am associated with uniy since 2001.

i feel ,
The number of people attending sessions now a days is higher than the average turn out in earlier years. this is good, but is also bad.

Grill , Grill , Grill
it is not numbers that make a UNIYan proud, it is sheer quality.it is the only motto 'quality'.

the Uniy now looks like a picnic spot where any one can spent some' quality' time.Mash is right.it is not a place for jokes.
the veterans of Uniyans has a duty to perform.make sure, you set the quality benchmark high.make sure each and every one, especially new comers pass that quality test.Uniy don't need more members, stop cajoling and start grilling.the best thing to do is grill at UNIY and soothen the victims at Annapurna. Table topics is the heart of UNIY , you conduct charged up discussions , you win respect.other wise it is waste of time
when we had a similar situation during 2002, we took a conscious decison to grill each and every one who takes the podium. the idea is either you perform or 'GET OUT'.
I assure you, if i am there for two more sessions, I will make you all sweat.

Today's Session

If i am to talk about today's session i feel it was pretty good, infact the speakers were really good and didn't drag around too much or were pushy about the questions and i think the 1 question 1 answer thngy made the session pretty lively rather than just one side of the audience having interest while the other side chats away! The speakers were more clear in the way they expressed their opinions. The speeches made by Anuroop, Febna and Varun were pretty good and showed the junior memebers how to present their ideas in a very captivating manner. The questions raised were also very good considering the interest level of the audience. It was sad to note for the last couple of weeks how the members were showing an indifferent attitude when the speeches were being delivered and at the time of questions.

Coming to today's intro's; i felt the same old UNIY coming into shape when we had the intro's of the Ann and Anupama were going on, i feel that for both of them the grilling was to the max and this is how a intro should be handled. Kudos to all members for maintaing the standards that one expects from UNIY. Coming to the last 2 intro's; that of Ancy and Seelu, i felt Ancy performed a bit under her capacity and she has time to improve. Seelu was pretty good for a 1st timer and she really gave our SECRETARY a run for his money! Hope she does keep up the same level in future too! Looking forward to hear more news from all these new faces and hope they bring new life to UNIY.

Now the main event! The event was a very good effort from Rakesh whom i had informed about the main event yesterday night and seeing how good it was, he did an excellent job of giving topics that were really good! The teams were all pretty good(but still the best team won :P). Today's main event did all of us a good thing, it exposed the levels to which we are ignorant of wat's happening aroound us! The topics given were all current issues which were in the last 1 week's newspaper headlines, still many of us didn't even know what some topics were about! This is a very sad thing to happen especially to a BUNCH OF INTELLECTUALS that UNIY symbolises! It's not such a big deal to read and develop your current affair knowledge, everyone has access to the basic newspaper that hardly anyone touches! Why such apathy to something that hardly requires any effort?? Many of us use the internet for increasing our friends circle thorough yahoo chat and Orkut, why can't we use atleast 10% of that time over some news articles and increase our awareness about wat's happening around us???

It would definatly do all of us good, even if we are Engg students, Literature, Economics, Psychology or even school students. It would help us in one way or other like if we are preparing for CAT or any other competitive exams Current affairs is a sure shot question area in ur Interview. We have many members who are IAS aspirants and still we lack the level of knowledge that even a high school student. Similar is the case of anyone who wants to write some exam in future, no matter where you go this is an area which YOU CANNOT IGNORE. So take a few mins off your schedule and do take your time to read the paper in the mornings.

UNIART-06!~2 MORE DAYS 2 GO..!!~

This blog is completely dedicated 2 the preparation 4 Uniart-06 (coz b4 long...i mean....after Uniart-06..i would write a blog abt the actual event!). Uniart is an annual dream of every Uni Yians. It rightfully deserves a spacious room in our hearts. I'm a new member 2 Uni Y & hence this is my 1st Uniart. The preparations took off very early..! But i hav 2 give it 2 u guys....v hav been lacking in 'Man & Woman' power!
Almost all our very active members (which includes myself too ...hehehe.....ok.... it's self acclaimed!....HAPPY!!) were involved in this very inevitable programme called 'Sponsy Hunting'! That's the event that actually paves way 2 all other events. The price money 4 that event can range 4rm 10,000 bucks (where u receive a promisery note 4rm a certain institute whose name name is merged with Uniart-06!) to 3,000 bucks (where u get a banner 4rm an institute). But thing u hav 2 remember is...all these prices go 2 the treasurer 4 the time being...& u'll get the fruits of it at UNIART-06!!The hunting part is the most difficult thing 2 do..! U r allowed 2 use any skill of urs. U can b 'THE' Governer of Uni Y, u can b 'just' the comittee members of this wonderful forum whose 'THE' President & 'THE' Secretary happen 2 b gr8 people like Mr.Manu Varma & Mr.Varun Sathees or u may even make the 'President of India' call up the institutes 2 make them give u money! Anything is possible in this wonderful game called....... 'SPONSY HUNTING'! But here i hav 2 mention this...there r many Uni Yians who hav been 'deprived' of this 'pleasure'!
Next comes the poster.....! This was no child's play! (Hav u seen the poster???? NO?!..Well....there wasn't any sort of ban on visually relishing the beauty of the poster!)But on grounds of lack of new members..... v had 2 seek legal as well as technical electronic designing profficiancy 2 complete it! (Now v kno wat happens when an engineer & a lawyer play chess! No prize 4 the guesses....a POSTER IS BORN..!!) The brochure has this synchrounous look with the poster...u hav 2 c it 2 b
