Onam was simply tooo GOOD!
Hella,
Well all must be thinking i was the one who told everyone to blog and wher's my post. Personal matters do keep one away from OFFICIAL responsibilities. Well no more excuses, but coming to think of it, why will i need excuses to describe about one of the best days of my life @ UNIY. The organisation that has given me sooo much; starting from the basic sessions to the BESTEST frnds one can find on the planet(evn tho at times THEPPU gets th better of frndshp).
The day began with me getting up late on a hangover from yet another sleepless night. (god i miss smilies in here). I got up at 7 and then was busy writing a CD for the day's festivites(wat onam without music). Got over with all other activities and then had a glance at th clock and saw that it was already 930, and i was supposed to reach YMCA by 1030. "I am sooo scrwd" were the words in my mind. Somehow i managed to make myself presentable by 10, had breakfast and then kicked th bike and reached uniy by 1040. What do i see there, just a handful of MEMBERS and not a single ORGANISER. Then people began to come in one by one and we had a good number by 11. We all put th food in the mess and then assembled in the mini hall where th function was SUPPOSED to begin at sharp 11. But as Deepa said, it takes time for the creative machinery to get up and running so we had a small delay. The stupid CD player that our President brought ddnt support CD-RW so i had a bad start to the program.
We had a good speech from Manu who tried to add a tinge of humour by having statements like " i have always wanted to have a LOOOOOOOONG BORING speech @ UNIY" but then we all know that manu's not good for that, right ppl? So manu tried his best to make the speech boring, but i would say it was fairly interesting. Then came Thomas Abraham sir with his speech about how he used to celebrate onam in his young days. Frankly i thought THAT would be a boring speech, but then that man spoke with a true to heart feeling and told many niceties that it was hard not to applaud when he stopped. He reminded us what we should be doing other than just having sessions on saturdays. Then came the pride of UNIY, Honourable Secretary with his " some people........." speech. He used the time to say the importance of ONAM in his life and how it's changed his FEELINGS for other PEOPLE. Nayana had a surprise for me when she said " for vote of thanks.......... Abhijith", somehow managed to pull it off with an impromptu SPEECH. (hee hee)
Then came the EVENTS, or more like FILLERS, these were started off by NAYANA who virtually murdered a NICE song. Then we had some nice numbers from Taariq, who came well prepared to remove our boredom especially his enactment of MASH havin a BASH! Not to forget Aravind's rendition of one of my fav songs. Now members began to give their experiences about onam while some of us were busy setting the EVENT of the day- ONA SADYA! The descriptions went on till 130 and by then all were pretty hungry and made a beeline to the mess. There we 1st had the junior members enjoy the sadya, while we served. Then came the time for us to pass the baton to them and have a relaxed time. It was great to see girls running around with the food, serving and making us all heavier.
Then began the festivities, with a TRUTH or DARE, which turned out to be a THEPPU competition in disguise. All had a gala time, with exceptional dares like those of INSANE Arun's; Arun John making it clear that any cuisine is welcome, then arjun proving his COFFEE eating skills. Not to forget th embarrasment i had with proposing Niranjan and gettin rejected(nt tht am sad over it) and being tight lipped about the various girls in my life and how many have i proposed to. This went on and on and most people who were ousted at the begining were bored, not coz of the program being boring, but coz of the heavy diet.
After this we had an exciting round of musical chair, in which mash proved yet again that he has all the skills required of a true POLITICIAN, by not letting go of th chair till the very end. Then came SPT, by now every1 will have known who gave that name and what the event is.... It was fun watching friends go over and KUTTIFY the wrong image.
And so the best onam of my life came to a end, but then i wasn't sad coz i had a great time and i belive that each of us did have a special time over there in those few hours where we truly forgot all our problems and united in enjoying onam as one single entity. Hope this sprit is there throughout the year and keeps us strong and move towards a better UNIY
